Description:   Opened: 2008-07-19 00:55
I built Abiword 2.6.4 from sources downloaded on 7/17/2008 on Ubuntu Linux 8.04
Hardy Heron on an AMD Opteron (64-bit).

Bullet and number formatting results in display of Unicode hex value glyphs for
bullet and numeral characters. Numerals in text display correctly.

Could you provide your configure string and a sample document? Also, could you
try the packages we built on the abisource.com downloads page and test there?

I don't know what a configure string is.

Document and screen shots attached.

I just now got the repository information and installed 2.6.4. It has the same
display problems on my system.

The configure string would be your ./configure command, to see if you built
yours differently from mine, but since mine don't work either, that's not
likely to be the cause.

Do you have some sort of symbol font installed? Since it doesn't work better
with my packages, then we can say it's a problem/unusualness with how your
system is set up. What are your GNOME font settings? It looks like for the
numbers on the ruler and the bullets, it's grabbing for a glyph in a font
(usually Vera Sans and Symbol respectively on GNOME, IIRC) that doesn't have
it.

I've been using and developing AbiWord on 64-bits for 3+ years now, and never
had anything like this, so I'm removing the 64bits keyword. For once, our
choice of full processor utilization isn't the problem! :D

I did a straight
./configure
make
make install

with no changes to confgure.

I have symbol fonts and extensive Unicode fonts installed.

Both 2.6.4 versions /usr/bin/abiword (from package), /usr/local/bin/abiword
(compiled from source) say

** (abiword:20381): WARNING **: Exception in gr::RangeSegment

many times over on launching from a terminal.
