Description:   Opened: 2000-02-12 21:24
If a .abw file has a unknown character in it, when you try to open it, you get
a warning that AbiWord is trying to open a bogus file. This happens on both
Winodws and Linux, and I am not sure what kinds of characters cause the
problem.

------- Comment #1 From martelli@cybercable.fr 2000-05-23 19:22:59 -------
It looks like I have encountered this problem when saving a word .doc as .abw :
I cannot open the saved file. It says "bogus document".

------- Comment #2 From Dom Lachowicz 2001-03-13 18:50:34 -------
Can you send us a testcase?

------- Comment #3 From TJ Robertson 2001-04-30 09:21:44 -------
This must be the bug that destroyed my history paper! I used the Copywrite
symbol at one point in my paper. After AbiWord crashed for whatever reason, I
couldn't open the .abw because it was "bad format" or somthing along those
lines.

------- Comment #4 From Jesper Skov 2001-06-09 13:00:20 -------
This should be investigated in depth!

------- Comment #5 From Hubert Figuiere 2001-06-15 03:16:29 -------
can someone attach a sample document to this bug ?
Thank you.

------- Comment #6 From Nils Barth 2001-07-12 09:40:00 -------
The dataloss portion of this bug was fixed in bug 1668; the unknown character
looks related to bug 1437 (same kinda problem only with apostrophe instead of
copyright symbol -- they aren't being escaped properly) -- marking as duplicate.

Also, on CVS2001-07-10, i386-linux, DEBUG/GNOME build, the copyright symbol
works for me.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 1437 ***
