If a .abw file has a unknown character in it, when you try to open it, you get a warning that AbiWord is trying to open a bogus file. This happens on both Winodws and Linux, and I am not sure what kinds of characters cause the problem.
It looks like I have encountered this problem when saving a word .doc as .abw : I cannot open the saved file. It says "bogus document".
Can you send us a testcase?
This must be the bug that destroyed my history paper! I used the Copywrite symbol at one point in my paper. After AbiWord crashed for whatever reason, I couldn't open the .abw because it was "bad format" or somthing along those lines.
This should be investigated in depth!
can someone attach a sample document to this bug ? Thank you.
The dataloss portion of this bug was fixed in bug 1668; the unknown character looks related to bug 1437 (same kinda problem only with apostrophe instead of copyright symbol -- they aren't being escaped properly) -- marking as duplicate. Also, on CVS2001-07-10, i386-linux, DEBUG/GNOME build, the copyright symbol works for me. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 1437 ***
