A short while ago there was a comprehensive review of Abiword features, and this one of the suggestions. In using Abi, I have found that I would like to be able to insert a break as a menu item. I find the dialog is clunky in this instance. It would be a short menu, only: Page Break Column break ------------<-line Section Breaks>(submenu) (submenu) Next page Continuous Even page odd page
I disagree. The dialog is already done, changing it to a menu would not be the best way to spend ones time. Leave well enough alone. It is similarly clunky to have too many menus and submenus this was suggested during a usability report by Jared Aiken, but it was shot down (by me) and no one cared enough to argue. Id would like to theoretically be able to customise the toolbars and add an icon and attach it to any existing function, unfortunately this is not possible yet The dialog is probably Modal, so you should be able to open it and leave it open as you work. If its not then submit a REQUEST for enhancement and add me to the CC list, it should be a simple enough one line patch. I also think that keybindings would obviate the need to use the dialog at all, in fact there might already be a keybinding. Shift Enter or Ctrl Enter or Page Down or something. My internet connect is really shaky i cant download abiword and test this. If you can test and make sure there are no keyboard shortcuts then try and suggest what might be suitable keybindings. (ive been waiting 20 mins and i still cant download a copy to test with, sorry) Changing to wontfix but if you still feel very strongly about this then submit a patch and convince the developers that your right and im wrong.
I'm inclined to agree with Alan. This is a matter of balancing different kinds of clunkiness, and I'm not sure that adding a menu is an improvement. Nested sub-menus certainly isn't. Closing.
