Description:   Opened: 2001-08-09 03:48
The Page Setup settings only appear to offer Margin values in inches. There
appears to be no option to set Margin values in Metric, or to set a default
Paper Size of anything other than Letter. The Tools -> Preferences -> Layout
option offers a Units value of centimetres but no ability to set a default page
size.

I'm not sure if these issues are related, but in Europe, the measurements are
generaly in metric with an (expected) default Page Size of A4.

The above comments apply to version 0.9.0.

This is also true on LinuxPPC/GNOME CVS2001.08.18. Opening.

------- Comment #2 From David Chart 2001-08-18 12:12:07 -------
To clarify: you can set metric measurements on Linux, but you can't set Abi to
default to them, and it should pick that up from the locale (as it picks up the
default paper type).

following comments from use of v0.7.14 and 0.9.0
Confirmed that page setup only offers choices in inches.
Default page size will depend probably on Regional settings on the individual
computer. On computers outside the USA many will show a default paper size of
A4. Hence, if the page setup box is opened on these computers, simply closing
the box again with OK will cause Abiword to crash, since the user has
unwittingly elected to change the paper size to A4 without necessarily intending
to do it.

------- Comment #4 From Dom Lachowicz 2001-08-24 08:57:30 -------
I'm not sure what's happening here - AbiWord loads the default paper types and
unit type from our system.profile files. These are determined by your locale
setup. For example, when I set my LANG to de_DE, I get cm/mm units, a german
spellchecker, A4 paper, and a GUI auf deutsch. Does this not happen for other
people? Are your environments not set up properly, so that it appears that
you're running in an en-US mode? Also, you can always set your default paper
size.

------- Comment #5 From MPritchett@attglobal.net 2001-08-27 16:35:31 -------
New page dialog works according to internal structures instead of printer
structers. All Page Sizes are available in all Units

------- Comment #6 From clem.dye@ubsw.com 2001-08-28 07:10:04 -------
As a follow-up to the update by cinamod@hotmail.com I checked my personal
AbiWord.Profile. I couldn't see any 'LANG' reference, but the DocumentLocale
value was set to 'en-US', rather than 'en-GB', although the StringSet,
ToolBarLabelSet & MenuLabelSet were set as I expected to 'en-GB'.

Not having looked at the source I will accept that I might be missing something
here, but 0.9.2 on Windows NT 4.0 still gives me the problem that I reported in
this bug report.

------- Comment #7 From a.selby@paradise.net.nz 2001-09-04 21:05:12 -------
This has been fixed (refer comment by M Pritchett 27 August) and I have tested
a
copy of the fixed version (0.9.2+) on Windows ME.

Both inch and metric units are available. However there is still a bit of
tidying up to do as AbW behaves in a slightly inconsistent and sometimes
confusing manner in dealing with measurement units in three places
(tools>preferences>layout, file>page setup>page, and file>page setup>margins).

Have recorded a new bug (#1935) which deals specifically with the above.
The particular problem recorded in this bug (#1828) is fixed - taking the
liberty of marking closed.

John Selby.
