Description:   Opened: 2001-06-18 11:58
Import/Export menu items are redundant, and therefore confusing. In my opinion
these should not be included, it would be a good option to have if customisable
menus were later introduced.

You may strongly disagree with me but please dont close this bug.
If the Ctrl+Q versus Alt+F4 bug is valid then so is this.

------- Comment #1 From Alan 2001-06-18 20:53:10 -------
june 4th nightly build

i did not mention it earlier, some one asked what i was on about because it was
not in 0.7.14 so im making it explicitly clear.

import/export appear to be functionally EXACTLY the same as open/saveas.

------- Comment #2 From Hubert Figuiere 2001-06-20 18:02:00 -------
Export save a copy as a different format. Import imports a file as a new
untitled file. Different meanings, different semantics.

------- Comment #3 From David Chart 2001-07-01 14:23:23 -------
Import does not open a file; it imports its contents into a new file. Changes
made in editing cannot alter the file.

Export does not save a file. It exports its contents to a new file. An untitled,
unsaved file remains untitled and dirty after export.

The functions are different, closing invalid.

------- Comment #4 From Alan 2001-07-02 14:11:37 -------
its not obvious, its confusing. Keep it Simple.

i resent being told its invalid, its not invalid, just a wontfix or a request
for enhancement.

If there was a usabiltiy catergory then i would file it there, until then its
here in the Front End category.

------- Comment #5 From Tim 2001-07-09 11:26:01 -------
I agree that the functionality of Import/Export is confusingly similar to Open
and Save As, but the functionality is definitely NOT redundant, and IMHO very
useful. Closing this bug.

Perhaps a new bug should be opened regarding the confusing nature of having
Open, Save, Save as, Import and Export all on the same menu? Perhaps Import
Content and Export Content menu items would be better?
